Discoverdatascience.org is dedicated to providing current and prospective students with the necessary information and resources to succeed in the field of data science prior to and after graduation. We’ve spoken with various experts and have performed comprehensive research intentionally designed to help students make well-informed decisions and be the most equipped to further both their education and subsequent job search, job placement, and careers in data science and other related fields. This short overview provides a handful of brief introductions to some of the topics within this Resource Center as well as an at-a-glance list of growing resources we continue to create for review. This guide addresses the challenges that many women and young girls face when pursuing an interest, degree, or job in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields. The guide covers an overview of the intersection between Environmental Science and Data Science and how the two can be combined to better tackle sustainability issues. This guide is a fantastic example of the range of the data science career field. Data Scientists are continuously immersing themselves in areas not commonly associated with big data and this guide provides resources for those interested in furthering their career in environmental sustainability. In addition, there are also recommendations on how to become a contributor to the sustainability movement.
Exploring a Career With Numbers
There are many careers that are a good fit for those who are strong with numbers. GRE Prep Guide
Most graduate degree programs in data science and its related fields require or (at a minimum) recommend submitting a Graduate Record Examination score. The GRE Prep guide explains the process of preparing, registering for and taking the test. It categorizes the various sections as well as offers expert tips and additional resources for students to use to master the skills required for the exam. While standardized tests can be intimidating, this guide breaks GRE prep into easily understood segments. In addition, both our Master’s and Online Master’s offer information on whether or not the GRE is required for admission.

Difficult math concepts don’t always “click” in our heads right away. The sites in our Ultimate Math Help Guide provide useful perspectives to reinforce many of the ideas first heard in the classroom. We have compiled over 50 great resources to help students improve their math skills. These cover skills that will help students from the elementary level all the way through college level math.

Securing an internship at a reputable company can be a great stepping stone into a full-time position. In the field of data science, each company has different operating procedures and standards so learning the ropes early on increases your value exponentially. Kids STEM Guide
The amount of fun and informational websites that deal with STEM topics on the internet can be overwhelming. For that reason, we’ve put together a guide for young learners with the best STEM centered websites out there. Our Kids STEM Guide features websites for kids ages K-12. The guide is broken down by Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math so students can get right to the topics they already love and then explore a new subject. There are sections listing camps and contests for teens, as well as resources for girls in STEM who continue to be underrepresented in STEM careers.
